History of the Lane Cove 12 Foot Sailing Skiff Club Clubhouse
Lane Cove 12 Foot Sailing Skiff Club is located at Longueville Point on a site that was
originally used for coastal shipping in the 1920s.
The first clubhouse was built in 1935. In the early days boats rigged and launched from the
riverbank adjacent to the club. The hardwood decking that provided access to the shed was then progressively extended to provide a stable launching area for the growing number of boats. In the early 1960s the George Eden Room was constructed on the river side of the
clubhouse.
In 1966 a major project was commenced to re-build the clubhouse as a two-story building to provide
the current clubhouse facilities. This project was a joint venture between the Sailing Club and
Lane Cove Council. It took several years and a considerable amount of volunteer labour but
the new facilities were finally officially opened in 1975.
