Audi Cruising Yacht Club Youth Academy Squads
 See photo here

Seven Lane Cove sailors have been selected to join 2007 Audi Cruising Yacht Club Youth Academy Squads. The CYC’s three squads provide an opportunity to extend the sailing skills of competent sailors. Over winter the squad members will work with coaches from the CYC Youth Academy and visiting sailors such as Sydney Olympic Gold Medalist Tom King and head sailing coach at the NSW Institute of Sport Eric Stibbe. The development work will include both fleet racing and match racing skills.

Lane Cove Flying Eleven sailors Tim Forbes-Smith, Alex Paton and Claire Lunsmann together with Sabot sailors Oliver Hartas and Andrew Lee have been selected for the Academy’s Talented Sailor Squad. Cherub sailors Jay Griffin and Catherine Trew have been invited to join the Academy’s Advanced Squad.

NSW Youth Match Racing Championship, (posted August 2006)

Lane Cove's current Flying Eleven Club Champion Jay Griffin put in an awesome effort in the recent Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing Championship finishing seventh overall. Sailing in his first major match racing series fourteen year old Jay was up against much older and more experienced opposition yet still managed to claim some big wins.

The series, sailed over two days at the CYCA, featured some of the State's top young sailors.

Overall winner of the Championship for the second year was the current Yachting Australia Youth Sailors of the Year Evan Walker. The series was sailed over two days with the final day sailed in a fresh and gusty 18kt Southerly.

Another Lane Cove Flying Eleven sailor Kate Brown was part of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron crew who finished ninth overall.

12ft Skiff Australian Championship double to Lane Cove (posted April 2006)
Nick Press and Brad Yabsley have done it; they now have the Australian title to their credit after earlier this season winning the NSW title and last year winning the Interdominion. Abbotsford turned on a really enjoyable series and we managed to get one solid fresh breeze to keep the spectators (and sailors) happy.

In addition to the win by Nick & Brad in Yabba Dabba, our other Nick, Nick Bernard sailing with Glenn Farquhar in Bush Oyster cleaned up the handicap.

Second overall were Brett Hobson and Alex Johnson in Garde and third were Jonathon Temple and Richard Jones in P&O both from the Sydney Flying Squadron

New racks for Sabots and Manly Juniors (posted March 2006)
Well done to the large and enthusiastic team of volunteers that turned up the Sunday before last and turned to good use some racking which was no longer required by the Sabot Association. If you haven’t seen it, take a look - we now fit 4 extra boats in the same area and are storing them on their cradles thus getting the cradles off the floor, and the aisle is considerably wider.

Yabba Dabba takes out Garde Series (posted March 2006)
Lane Cove’s Nick Press and Brad Yabsley were overall winners of the Garde Series sailed over 5 days during the season out of the Sydney Flying Squadron. For full results go to: www.skiff.org.au/garde.htm.
